Java is useful where C++ won't work (or will work with a lot of trouble).
And yes, if I remember correctly, Skype was written in Pascal (meaning, through Delphi, but Delphi is essentially Pascal with graphics), so "normal programming" is a broad concept.

Basic is better than Pascal in school.

I find it hard to believe that they teach Java in schools. The salary of Java programmers is simply enormous by Russian standards.

Programmers generally earn a good salary. But Java will always be just a language for small, cross-platform applications.

You know, I've programmed in all the languages listed, except for BASIC (okay, I'm exaggerating a bit: I haven't used the C++ part in C). So, in terms of program functionality/time spent, Delphi has the best performance. Time is saved mainly because almost no time is spent on the user interface. At the same time, the Pascal version used by Delphi is not inferior in its capabilities to C++. So, I'm all for this package. However, if we're talking about more modern C#, I can't say anything about it; it might indeed be a good language with great capabilities. But C# is very different from C++, so they can't be put in the same category. Based on what I know, I'll create a list like this: 1) Java - for cross-platform applications, as Lord pointed out. 2) Assembler - for hacking, which can also be useful. 3) C - if you need to fix someone's C source code ;) 4) Delphi - for everything else.

Si has a great alternative to Delphi - Builder.

It takes no more time to create a user interface in it than in Delphi. Builder and Delphi are like brother and sister from the Borland family.

Yeah, Borland C++. It's a great tool, but I haven't had the chance to try it out yet, and there's no real reason to.

Reading about beer made me want some, and the same thing happened here. I remembered various small programs I wrote in C++, and I felt like spending an evening or two killing things again.

Guys, everything still gets translated into machine code, and you won't be able to escape assembly language and machine code, no matter what you do))) So, assembly will always be for the chosen few.
And everything else is just for practical purposes.
