-- Aaaah! -- squeaked the girl and sank into the snowdrift, letting out a relieved laugh. -- You scared me! You can't do that...
After what I hope was a long, fun, and productive game, Mia brushes the snow off herself and asks Berwang:
-- Listen, I have a question, maybe a little strange... If you were a ten-year-old boy, what would you visit first in the city?
— But I'm not a ten-year-old boy, Xenomia. Or rather... How many years have I lived... — He started counting on his fingers.
Ple-Sen
The idea seemed a little strange to Nee, but it didn't require much effort from the girl, so why not? Although, of course, in some situations, she will have to keep her real opinion to herself.
— Would you show this text to your classmates? — Ryuji asked her, looking at her list.

- Hey, prez! I came to you. Are you not busy with anything right now? I was thinking maybe I could craft something else; I'm kind of into it, but I don't have enough skill to just do it right away. You probably have a whole cabinet full of amazing stuff; maybe you have something I could use as a reference? I could also use some advice on this craft, because Avik doesn't really explain things well, and we don't have any other skilled tech guys.

— But I'm not a ten-year-old boy, Xenomia. Or, well... how old was I then... — He started counting on his fingers.
— Well, of course not! It's just that my brother is coming to town soon, and I'm thinking about where to take him... I probably won't have time for a full-fledged tour, so I need to choose the most important things.

- Hey, dude! I came to you. Are you not busy right now? I was thinking maybe I could do some crafting, I'm kind of into it, but I don't have enough skill to just jump right in. You probably have a whole collection of cool stuff, maybe something I could use as a reference? And some advice on this craft would be great, because Avik doesn't really explain things well, and we don't have any other good tech guys.
— Let's do that in a couple of days, okay? I just want to clear my head in the first few days of vacation after everything that's been happening lately. I haven't figured out what I'm going to do yet, staring at the ceiling doesn't seem like a very effective way to spend my time.

— Well, he should just be happy to spend time with you, it doesn't really matter where...

— Well, he should just enjoy spending time with you, what difference does it make where...
Just now, this guy was struggling to remember how old he was, and then... Miya slapped her forehead and took out a notebook.
-- That's right... What difference does it make what or where or when, if the person you love is nearby? -- Xenomia wrote down. -- Although, I'll still try to gather some information by the twenty-seventh... By the way, call me "Miya." I want all my friends to call me that!

— Would you show this text to your classmates? — Ryuji asked, glancing at her list.
— Honestly, I’m not sure, — the girl admitted, — a text geared towards them wouldn’t be so neutral and detached, and would focus more on their positive qualities, as they have plenty of those. Although, I don’t think many would be offended by the characteristics given to them. Here, the traits listed are those that, in my opinion, best describe them, but this text doesn’t fully reflect my feelings towards my friends. Describing a person in just a few words is more difficult than you might think. Especially when you know them well.

- Well, let's go for a walk then, what do you say? - Latro nodded towards the door. - It's boring to just sit here. We could go into town; I haven't been there much lately, maybe they've done something interesting for the holidays. Or just wander around the grounds.

— Hey, Neya! Neya! — Issei tugged Linnea's sleeve. — And who will you worry about the most and the least from the list when he or she is shot in the war?

— Okay, let's go, but where? Do you know anything about jewelry?

— Hey, Nea! Nea! — Issei tugged on Linnea's jacket sleeve. — Out of the list, who would you be most and least worried about if they were shot in a war?
— I don't even want to think about that, so I'd rather leave this question unanswered. I sincerely hope that we all return from the war alive and well.

— No, Neya, that's impossible, it's pure fantasy. But you could write a story about it, in a genre where you return as the only one of us who survived.
— If only Larian would just rejoin the empire,” Wizenia remarked, listening to their conversation, “all the problems would be solved immediately...”

Neia ignored Issei’s reply. She herself perfectly understood that the chances of everyone returning from the war safe and sound were extremely slim, almost bordering on the fantastical. However, she also understood that Issei wasn’t particularly concerned with the question itself; he simply wanted to get under her skin. He was a child, not just in body, but also in spirit.
“If all the world’s problems could be solved through diplomacy, we wouldn’t be studying at a military academy right now,” the girl sighed heavily in response to Visenya’s remark, “unfortunately, the world is much more complex.”

— Alright, Mia.
The girl smiled. She had no doubt that she now had another person for whom she was ready to sacrifice herself. Maybe it was a bit hasty, especially after a snowball fight, but so be it.
-- Remember one more lesson, my young apprentice, -- she resumed her instructive tone and threw a snowball at Berwang. -- When there's an opponent nearby, don't relax!

***

In the evening, she sits in the library and tries to at least minimally fill in the gaps in her knowledge of the city. It didn't help much, especially since she had big problems with all these lists of shops and stores, but still, it was something.
The next day, she tries to join Anelotte in the park (in the morning, she managed to stop by Moriner's for a book and thank him warmly).
