The speed of clearing/exploring the map mainly depends on the movement speed of the hero. Supplying troops rarely presents a significant difficulty. And clearing with units usually takes place in explored territory (and often on rough terrain), so it's better to call it "mopping up," meaning it has little impact on exploring the map.
