We had a really cool City Day celebration.

The problem isn't with how cool the celebration is. The holiday itself is just made up. And there are many like it.
In my opinion, good holidays are those that celebrate a truly significant event. Not Independence Day, not City Founding Day, but something truly serious and interesting.
