Gentlemen, congratulations to everyone on the direct detection of gravitational waves!
https://geektimes.ru/post/270916/description of the experiment from GT
A gravitational wave changes the distance between the movable end mirrors of the interferometer, as a result of which a change in the interference pattern is observed at the output of the detector. To increase the sensitivity of such a detector to the distance between the mirrors, the arms of the interferometer reach a length of 4 km, the optical power on the mirrors is 100 kW, and the mirrors themselves, weighing 40 kg, are mounted on high-quality (Q~107) suspensions and equipped with an additional system for isolating seismic noise.
