We see ourselves as we want to see ourselves.

This is clearly not solipsism, or perhaps a very specific case of it. The word "want" is most inappropriate here. Solipsism states that the consciousness of the person making this statement is the only objective reality. But "want" implies that you are defining the principles of how this consciousness works, asserting that its desires (which in any case is a higher level) can influence reality itself, which, although it is part of the same consciousness, lies on another level (or perhaps it would be better to say "perception" instead of "reality" to avoid confusion). This is not at all obvious, although in some specific case of solipsism, it might be postulated. But I doubt it; I find it very difficult to provide any arguments in favor of such an idea, while there are plenty of counterexamples (like yours).
