Wouldn't it be possible to put Astral Gate on the list of forbidden spells for a map?
Unfortunately, you can't increase the duration of a hero's spell - the developers decided to limit it to combat bonuses only. But with the Wizardry skill and spells enhanced by 50%, Chaos seems to help the troops quite well.
