Based on personal experience, I played only one map type during my first year. Of course, everything changes over time. If participants don't have at least 5 reports about different map templates, what are we even talking about in the group?

Everything is up to the organizers. I voted for SCD in the AK, but against these innovations. There is still time before the start...

I also played mostly one map type when I started playing. But now, in the streams that mainly attract new players, that map type is played very rarely.
If you look at the section with reports on fan games, you'll see that mostly new players are playing Jebus and 8mm6a. Templates like m200, that map type, and Diamond are played much less often and in roughly the same number of games.
This is what we considered when introducing different templates in the group.
