With proper leveling and battle tactics, most dragons will survive until the end of the mission. First, take the initial castle with minimal losses. Fedya takes dragons and other units and goes to fight. It's better to defend with a secondary hero (at least on hero difficulty). After a few battles, he will also level up well. The main thing to remember is that it's not always beneficial to deploy the entire army in battle, that unicorns have a magic resistance aura, that you need to leave the castle at the right time to finish off the besiegers, and thereby minimize losses.
