I've read so much fantasy, and mages never had this problem. Shields only react to sharp, rapidly approaching objects. However, I'm tired of this argument. Maybe it would be better to replace the ability with another spell, since the GM messed up the mechanics so much. It hasn't been useful even once. And the mechanics of this thing are just awful; it consumes a lot of mana, leaving you defenseless, and doesn't give you anything in return.
