well, first you need to think everything through, roughly estimate what and how it will be, and most importantly, who will be involved. I'm not a big expert on video games either, but one thing I definitely wouldn't do is introduce characters that appear not only in video games, or rather, those who first appeared in another form, and only then a game was created about them.
