Here's a part of the creature descriptions in the original game, not counting the expansions – some are non-canonical (Rakshasas are not spirits, Minotaurs are not slaves, etc.). The same goes for the appearance of some creatures (Liches are not skeletons, Black Dragons have eye-like wings, etc.). Gremlins, it seems, no longer exist at all (although I'm not entirely sure about that yet).
Too bad, Gremlins were cool. Well, it's an ambiguous decision, but let it be. If that's the case, it would have been easier to release a fix for the fifth game with updated creature descriptions; any modder, even a beginner, could complete that task in a couple of hours.
