GMOs: beneficial or deadly?

They come up with all sorts of scary stories, and we end up hiding in the attic, all scared together.
GMOs are actually a very cool thing. For example, I've seen reports and read about wheat that can grow in saline soil, as well as about clever purple tomatoes (they are purple because of their high antioxidant content). In general, it's a new stage in agriculture, undoubtedly. It's just a shame that it's being artificially held back by "intellectuals," but that's okay, it will pass.
