I'm interested in the distribution. Simply put, will 10 air units hit a target with the same probability whether the target has 80 hit points or 50?

I don't think so. It seems like the Gaussian distribution applies here as well. As I understand it, the damage from each unit is calculated separately and then summed up. IMHO, based on my personal observations.
