Hattians

Hattians are large, slug-like humanoids with short, stout arms, cave-like mouths, and large eyes. After the destruction of their home world, Varla, the Hattians migrated to other planets, including Nal-Hatta, which they made their new capital. They speak their own language and have a unique ability to see in both the visible and ultraviolet parts of the spectrum. Often, these cunning slugs illuminate their palaces with both spectra, giving unwanted guests a false sense of security. Despite their bulk, Hattians have no skeleton. Instead, they have a well-developed internal musculature that helps support their arms and head, while their body ends in a long, flat tail. The skin of the Hattians is moist, covered in slime, and so thick that it is not pierced by most blasters and some chemicals. They also have a large layer of subcutaneous fat, which helps maintain body temperature and also protects against cuts. Hattians are mainly involved in piracy and smuggling – the most high-ranking Hattians gather loyal races around them and use the services of mercenaries. Hattian infantry exists only on Nal-Hatta, while on other planets, Hattians always lead criminal organizations.
