First time on the forum, I'm in shock!

I started as one should, with the rules... and was amazed! It turns out that bureaucracy has even reached Heroes! Saving every time, bugged passages, keeping saves until the end of the tournament. Everything is so serious!

As it has already been said, the rules were created for a reason. The game in its original form is far from balanced; to say nothing of the fact that it isn't designed for Multiplayer at all. And these rules are the result of the bumps and bruises that the Heroes community went through.

But I just want to play with someone for fun - without any rules! We launch clean Heroes 3 (without mods, patches, or expansions), create a map, choose castles, and start playing! Is that possible?

It is possible. For example, you can install GameRanger /topic/at/272014/ and play without rules and not bother. But then you will remain a noob.

(GameRanger works if you have a static IP address, or something like that. In my case, I currently have a dynamic one, so I can't play Heroes anymore, but other games work normally. In principle, it's a good program, but there are VERY many noobs.)

And if yes, which version of Heroes 3 do I need? I have "Complete Collection," will it work? The product version in the exe file properties is 4.0.

The Complete Collection should be fine.
