This could have been easily avoided by using the recommended patch from WiZarDX_576:

+ For Isre and Vidomina, the expert Necromancy skill is only offered at the last level during leveling up; the skill tree remains unchanged.
How this works: when the expert Necromancy skill is offered at earlier levels, it is removed from the list of suggested skills in the dialogue box. That is, instead of two skills being offered, only one will be.

Also, using "HW rulez", you won't be able to perform 2 Dimension Doors when it's prohibited by the rules, you won't be able to use hit-and-run tactics, neutral creatures won't join you, you won't be able to build forbidden structures or buy forbidden units... So, it makes sense to consider an alternative – Techport or a patch.

Am I right that if opponents have equal scores, their fate will be decided by drawing lots or an additional game? And if there's another draw in that game, will the ranking score decide the outcome?

Yes, if the scores are tied, we’ll try to organize tiebreaker games, where draws won’t count (like in playoffs). If we can’t come up with a suitable system, we’ll have to rely on random selection (as you did in Novichok - 5 players each have 2 points - how do you choose the best two out of equals?).
It’s a complex issue; for now, it’s completely unclear what we’ll get at the end of the group stage. We’ll make a decision based on the final results together with all organizers.

And which is better in this case: to be higher or lower in the rankings? After all, a draw against a player who is higher in the rankings is more valuable.

It’s better to be higher in the rankings (we’ll look at the permanent ranking first, and then the seasonal one if they are equal). That is, we will encourage those who play more successfully in all Tournaments.
