Plus, common sense hasn't been canceled, and starting to play on an old version of the mod when a new one (which implements useful features and significantly improves the balance) is almost ready is complete nonsense.

I believe that the mod developers shouldn't be rushed – let them work at their own pace, and after several test runs in fun matches, the mod can be launched with peace of mind at the next tournament.
Besides, playing on any mod is still possible with mutual agreement; if there is no agreement, the game is played on the official version of the mod.

I didn't quite understand, is the game played in a round-robin format, meaning the 3rd player doesn't play against the 2nd or the 1st?

If I understand correctly, each player plays against every other player, except those on their own team – 20 games per person.
