Well, the canvas is a plane, and the direction of the airflow in this plane is collinear with the direction of the airflow around the aircraft (conditionally). Roughly speaking, they don't touch (or touch very little). In any case, the difference in the forces of the airflows would be negligible, so it wouldn't give the aircraft enough acceleration to take off.
Yeah, if it were a liquid instead of air, it would be more likely, as the viscosity would be orders of magnitude greater. Although, ideally, it should be calculated.
