This knocking could only belong to one humanoid, a dwarf named Vlad. Vlad was a bit tall for his people, had a not-too-long, well-groomed beard, and always hid his chestnut hair under a ushanka hat, which looked strange on the island of Deep. Opening the door, Miss Jones indeed saw him, but overall, the scene was unexpected: Vlad was sitting on the ground in a clearly dazed state (though still conscious), and a goblin was rummaging through his pockets.
