This is not how it should work. You enter the coordinates, press Enter, and the object should move. The only caveat: the object must be selected. An object outside the map may not be selected by directly clicking on it (it might be, but I don't remember), but you can select it by clicking on the tile where it is "theoretically" located, even if the tile is empty.
