Who actually uses quick combat at the beginning? Even with 600+300, it's not very wise, and with 1000+400, it's completely unwise.
Quick combat is for the mid-to-late game; at the beginning, you have to do everything manually because losing 1-2 units is often critical.
This is where the timer consumption comes from. For Barbarian, all battles are fought manually, while for Inferno, only half are. This is especially true during the mid-game, when the most difficult battles take place, and having a time reserve is most necessary.
