Tell that to the monks who don't satisfy one of these needs at all, are very limited in another, and the third depends on how lucky they are with their monastery (and the defense seems to be fine). And yet, people feel great and are full of energy to work! So, it's all nonsense; needs are just one of the means, but not the goal.
