A resident of Gomel had his... tank stolen!
An unusual request was received by the department for investigating crimes in the field of high technology of the Gomel Regional Executive Committee's Internal Affairs Directorate.
The applicant reported that he had lost his "combat vehicle crew" in the virtual space of the popular online game World of Tanks.
As "Ezhednevnik" writes, first, the user's email inbox was hacked, and through it, access was gained to the game account, as a result of which the owner of the "tank keys" was deprived of it. What happened could have been regarded as nothing more than a curiosity if not for one circumstance: the resident of Gomel invested a considerable amount of real money in the game, using the opportunity provided to gamers to "level up" their tank in this way. That is, to improve its weapons, armor, and other technical capabilities.
“Since we are talking about significant damage caused to the victim, we did not ignore his request,” comments Andrey Serafimovich, head of the department for investigating crimes in the field of high technology of the Gomel Regional Executive Committee's Internal Affairs Directorate. “The problem is complicated by the fact that the tank in its previous form no longer exists in the game space – the attacker sold it in parts to other users.”
