I only decided to try other clues for Mental after your post. The analogy with cards was the first thing that came to my mind, nothing more.

Yes, this is my third game with clues. Moreover, the first one was a hybrid – it had both clues and quants, and it ended in a failure -__-". The second game was the one that was linked in this thread, on the 1C forum. And both of them differed from yours in that free communication was allowed. So, I'm playing this kind of Mafia for the first time.

And what does the forum have to do with it? The basic principles of the game don't change.

The principles don't change, but the attitude towards unfamiliar people is different compared to known players, whose playing style you already know and understand what to expect from them, and what is unlikely. Newcomers are unpredictable, and they are usually treated with caution. That's all :3
