If the main problem is the enemy's ballista, then, as I said before, you should go for Chaos -> Lord of Cold -> Deadly Cold. If not, then I think Light is preferable. However, it's worth remembering that you don't necessarily need to level up Light magic to use regeneration against neutral creatures.
