Forget about the game; this isn't about it, but about the corresponding section.
It all started with a thread dedicated to the sixth installment in the Heroes section (although it seems it was originally created in the off-topic section). It was created back in 2007, when the game wasn't even in anyone's plans. Well, something was happening there. Some sluggish discussion, not-so-clever April Fool's jokes, various fans of the Gods trying to persuade Ubisoft to make 10 factions and "so that you could rob caravans"... If there were any arguments, they were about the previous Heroes games. This continued until 2010, when information about the new game began to leak onto the Internet more and more often. If I remember correctly, somewhere in this period, the thread moved to its own section. And that's when all the interesting things started.
Almost immediately, the popularity of the thread increased many times over. People from the off-topic section had occasionally visited it before, but now they just moved there. Many fans of the fifth game started posting in the thread (including me and Pobeditel, then still Gilraen, exactly like that, with a spelling mistake, which he was very upset about). It's important to note that there were no moderators in the section yet, and the Creator wasn't particularly interested in us. Naturally, the thread turned into a second Haven of Debauchery with all its attributes. Some people joked about Arandor, some grumbled for no reason, some with a female gender in their profile and a cute avatar trolled Gilraen, Gilraen was also busy with something, and your humble servant threw in silly jokes. In general, there was an idyll, and almost no one missed the opportunity to post. The free ride ended when Drakkoshka applied to become a moderator in the section. Immediately, several hundred, or even more, posts were deleted from the thread. There was some resentment from the people who had so diligently posted them... And gradually, the number of off-topic arguments decreased, although at night there were still off-topic raids, in which Kosha herself sometimes didn't hesitate to participate, but in the morning everything invariably and mercilessly went to the bottom. At the same time, the off-topic wave returning to WoW managed to drag some people with it. These were a couple of newcomers who came to the forum because of Heroes 6, and I, and Gilraen also started to take an interest in what was happening in WoW.
I hope no one fell asleep while reading this boring and well-known story.
P.S. It would be nice if knowledgeable people wrote a history of the mafia; there's definitely something to tell there.
