But that doesn't mean they should be liked by everyone. A person who enjoys a work of art experiences a connection with the author, as if communicating with him immaterially. If a person does not feel close to the author, why should he delve into his creation? Why force people to read what they find repulsive? Undoubtedly, someone may have "War and Peace" as their favorite book, but why should this apply to everyone?

In addition, the question arises: how is the value of a work of art measured? I believe that the purpose of art is, first of all, to achieve maximum perfection in a certain area. And what does approaching perfection mean? It is the creation of something that produces the maximum effect WITH THE LEAST AMOUNT OF RESOURCES. Roughly speaking, you can put the produced effect in the numerator, and the resources spent on creation in the denominator. Take, for example, some symphony by Bach for orchestra. The effect produced on listeners is great, but how much effort is needed for this! Or take the song by Queen - We Will Rock You. The effect, of course, is not so great, but the resources for performance are minimal. Therefore, the value of these two works is approximately equal.

So, perhaps "War and Peace" produces a strong effect on someone, but considering how much ink the author spent writing it, and how much time it takes to read these volumes, in my opinion, the value of this work is not very great.
