Even if you get a good starting position, an opponent with available restarts will intuitively sense something is wrong (due to the long turn, the large number of opponent's heroes) and may intentionally ruin the opponent's position.
This is nothing more than heroic schizophrenia. A long turn, firstly, is not necessarily an indicator of a "rich" map. Secondly, a good map may not require long turns, especially in the early days. Thirdly, it is obvious that the player is only willing to play a limited range of scenarios – my "advantage" against another player's "disadvantage," hence such a verdict.
