Suggestions for the database system and message counters.

Why recreate something when the general idea is already clear? What specific ideas are you referring to? I don't think a chat is necessary, although I have nothing against it. Here's an idea, not a major one: when you click the quick reply button, the username of the person you're replying to should be added to the post in bold. Also, the button could be made larger, as it's difficult to tap on a touchscreen without zooming.
