You are overestimating the importance of accumulated knowledge. Humans are naturally curious and creative; perhaps outside of society, they wouldn't walk on two legs or use a mobile phone, but they would still remain human. And if they aren't eaten, they will still have time in their lives to make some discoveries, modest by our standards, but truly significant in their circumstances.
