Who has the archer stack right now?

I'm sure that it's easier to position units with ranged attacks at the top, and my experience confirms this. But if there are strong melee units, it's sometimes more advantageous to place them at the bottom. Or, for example, Ranged-1-1-many-1-1-1.
Also, if there's a ballista, I sometimes place units at the top.
