This is the 2nd version of the map. Bugs have been fixed. Scripts have been added. Now the map has become a Multiplayer arena. You can play with a friend. Simplified it a bit... just a bit...)
Hello. I specifically re-registered and logged in to leave some feedback:
I played the second version of the map on Veteran as Order (this was with a computer ally who lived for 3 weeks, which caused the computer, Buka, to lag during turn transitions—Buka took 2 minutes longer!).
The map is very interesting, but I will only be critical here (since the strengths are obvious! ;-) )
My remarks for open reading:
1. The map is O-o-oh very slo-o-ow!!!
In fact, I was only able to play it on minimum quality settings at 800*600 resolution. The computer's turn lasted 7-10 minutes.
This happened both on a Core2x 2500 2GB GF9500Gt
and on an Athlon2X3 2700 2GB R4250
Since I like to peek around corners, and the map truly requires—even FORCES—one to think and try different options, the game turns into a kind of "correspondence chess"...
There is really no way to try an action and then roll back a couple of turns.
In short, IMHO, when releasing such maps, you should provide a small FAQ: recommended actual system requirements, what will be the bottleneck in the PC, hardware/software optimization tools for achieving acceptable performance, etc.
2. The map is very glitchy.
At first, I tried playing in bursts, an hour at home and an hour at work, alternating. HP and HOMM 5.3.0 are installed in both places. Hardware and drivers are different—see above.
- if I saved the game, or if there was an autosave after a turn, the game crashed every time during the next load. If I tried to load 2 different saves in a row, the game crashed 100% on the second one.
- the computer only saw the first (single-player) version of the map at work; it didn't see it at all at home.
- starting from a certain GAME moment, the game stopped loading entirely at home. (third month, immediately after this I took and cleared 35000 skeletons in the center of the snows and took a couple of side castles from the blue-greens). It looked like I brought the saves home, all new ones WON'T load, all old ones load.
- on the red territory, there is a same dwarf Preserve that cannot be visited.
- In the center, near two castles, there is a green Necropolis outpost that cannot be taken, even though the paths are open...
- in general, it regularly happens that an outpost or mill stands by the road, but you CAN'T get in—the entrance is on the other side! Let's consider this not a bug, but a feature... ;-)
- parts of the map are separated by thick mountains; dimension works in some places, however, it only works if the hero has more than half their move points.
Do you still remember that turn transitions take up to 10 minutes?
In short, searching for such passages for dimensions is a very tedious task! :smile04:
It's easier for an Izuyer, he knows how :smile36:
3. The map is EMPTY!
The entire white area and most of the Dungeon, except for pieces of the NW-SE diagonal, are actually NOT NEEDED. The computer almost never goes there, and for a player with such lag—it's boring to go there—a waste of time...
Even running around stat boosters can cost you half a REAL day! (for me, a real week of my life... and then I found out that Lux is losing to Necromancers, I need to take the Dread...). Another real week.
The map could have been made 2 times smaller in size (4 times smaller in area and 4 times less laggy) and packed with the same objects in the same order. Such a map would lose nothing but gain a lot. imho.
THIS GOES IN THE SPOILER (sorry, I couldn't figure out how to do it myself):
My glitches:
1. In the first-second week, I entered the tavern and was IMPRESSED by Izuyer's stats.
Right there I saw and bought a Mask of Justice for backup, which should HAVE raised my stats, but NOPE—Izuyer and others have cheated stats. The mask bought in the second week for 20000 DOES NOT WORK AT ALL! Very disappointing to waste money...
2. I struggled for a while, then finally entered the prison on the 3rd week. As it turned out, behind Belka...
I read its description in the manual and the hellish FAQ here, on a respected site—supposedly at level 10 it should reduce the preparation cost by (10-1)*2=18% of the base price. That is, a character upgraded to "preparation master+experienced general" should reduce the training cost to 100-35-30=35%, and Belka additionally to 35-18=17%
No way!
First of all, the formula is wrong.
The correct one: reduction=(Level-1)*1%, meaning the bonus is TWO TIMES WEAKER, and this is a MULTIPLYING modifier, not subtracted from the base preparation price (which is the price of three purchases).
i.e., at level 10, the benefit is 32% instead of 35%.
At maximum level 40—it's already 21.5% instead of 35%
And if you manage to snag a pendant—12.2% instead of 20%.
i.e., in the best case, buying a monk will cost 650 coins, upgrading him ~460 coins. Total ~1110 coins, which is cheaper than simply redeeming a mutated rider—1250 coins.
3. The most dramatic episode—third week: first encounter with the computer when it arrived on the 3rd week with a "high" army, managed to get under recruitment and 2 trainings by Belka, and in "low" status was wiped out by Lux almost without losses.
In short, Belka is great, but only after the second encounter with the computer did I find out that against a Necromancer with native attack/defense around 60, Lux with 250 horses was losing... The horses went under the knife, into the banshee...
4. I got curious and peeked into another prison—Inga. Clearly, so the dwarf would have all the runes.
Peeked into a third one—not sure who or why...
5. The computer is stupid. It has plenty of opportunities, truly huge armies, very strong guys, but it just sits in place. In extreme cases, it moves back and forth. Or flies on wings through the forest and back...
I still didn't understand—when I wiped out 35k skeletons in the snow—there was a warning that Izuyer gives me a week—what did that mean? My saves stopped loading then, and the blue-greens became slightly more active. Or a coincidence?
Why doesn't the computer build up its castles?
6. 10 minutes is an unrealistic turn time. I regularly get caught out: I leave the computer to make a move, come back—Izuyer or Ravenna are gone, unclear where they rode off to or teleported, then suddenly they pop up... R-r-r!
7. The engine doesn't know how to correctly determine army strength for a cheated character.
Ravenna or Izuyer show me as "weak," but in reality, it's "no chance" or a "pyrrhic victory."
8. For such a large map, 8 heroes are frankly TOO FEW!
Either the map needs to be smaller, or more heroes should be allowed.
9. I already wrote in the forum for the standard Necromancer campaign that if a hero is above level 32 and there are at least 3-4 trees and a mentor—there is a possibility to raise the hero's level to 40:
- ГГ takes knowledge and a mentor.
- ГГ teaches h2 up to level 31 (h2 must take a mentor)
- h2 runs around the trees and becomes level 34-35
- h2 teaches h3 up to level 32-33 (h3 must take a mentor)
- h3 runs around the trees and becomes level 35-37
- h3 teaches h4 up to level 33-35 (h4 must take a mentor)
- h4 runs around the trees and becomes level 36-39
- h4 teaches h5 up to level 34-37 (h5 must take a mentor)
- h5 runs around the trees and becomes level 37-40
For 4 trees, the party ends—h5 teaches ГГ, who runs around the trees and becomes level 40 himself.
For 3 trees, first go through another 3 iterations similarly.
On this map, there are 7 trees in CLOSE proximity. This means that ГГ's level becomes 40 after a week of general running around once they reach ~25.
After that, all 8 heroes become level 38-40.
For a Necromancer, it's even sadder—8 heroes of level 40 (heroes corrupted by trees are dismissed), plus a bunch of castles, gives 4000-5000 EP per week.
That's 1500 skeleton archers or 200 vampires, or 100 liches for FREE.
In short, the trees in the red zone need to be cut down to a maximum of 3!
10. I wanted to rush Necromancers a couple of times with a team consisting of a level 40 Warlock who has 3 gold golems and 4 ghosts or liches; however, the only Warlock hero that appeared remained unbought, because in an "alternative reality" the Warlock WOULD have arrived on Monday, but on Sunday the main hero surrendered while leading away the pursuit.
and the warlock didn't arrive...
8 heroes are too few!
You can't even try different combinations.
In short, thanks for the game; I installed HOMM 5 again just for this map.
The game is not over yet, the pleasure promises to be lo-o-ong...
And one more thing, what are those scripts—can you lift the veil of mystery regarding the AI boundaries?
