I also really enjoy reading about how people will burn in hell for gluttony, lust, and other things (meaning we'll all be there), while God is merciful, hallelujah!

Well, that's just... First, these aren't the worst sins out there, second, God doesn't punish anyone, and third, He helps those who sincerely want to change.
This isn't the most appropriate topic, but I can explain everything in detail somewhere else, because from my experience, the fiercest attacks on Christianity come from misunderstanding and crude exaggeration of its position (although Christians themselves sometimes suffer from this, especially Catholics).
