1) What exactly are they doing at the collider? We've always been told that they're accelerating and colliding particles there to obtain the Higgs boson, right? In that case, it's unclear why they even tried to accelerate the neutrino "to the maximum" – what's needed isn't the highest possible speed, but a specific one, so that everything can be calculated.
2) How did they measure the speed? I don't know of a method to directly measure the speed of something; usually, an indirect method is used – through energy. The energy of a relativistic particle is E=mc^2/sqrt(1-v^2/c^2). No matter how large it is, this formula gives v<c in any case. if v>c, E becomes imaginary. Did they get an imaginary E? Or did they measure v differently?
3) How did they accelerate a neutral neutrino? I thought they were accelerating electrons, like everyone else...
