why did it happen when my morale was +5 and luck was +5?

Only if Deidre wears the Ring of Broken Spirit and shouts, even a morale of +5 will turn into -5, and luck won't matter to the units because they won't be able to move. Instead, they will be effortlessly shot down by skeletons, and after the battle, they will join the skeleton army.
