I call people I'm not particularly close to, but have encountered in various situations and remember, "shhtrikh." (They stand out to us in some way.) Example: "That guy stepped on my foot in the bus this morning," "This guy is good at soccer, I played with him yesterday," etc. In this case, I used the word "shhtrikh" to mean "acquaintance" or "mate." The word itself, as you probably understand, can be used by different people in different situations and with different meanings.
