Faster-than-light speed (like light speed) is impossible, as postulated by the theory of relativity. There are even formulas that describe what happens to an object as it approaches the speed of light. In general, only bodies with zero rest mass, i.e., photons of light, can possess it. So, all these hyperspace jumps (a very relevant topic for science fiction) are no less of a scientific heresy than bombarding the sun with nuclear bombs (by the way, why not consider the option that the bomb doesn't ignite the sun but simply serves as a detonator?).
There are hypotheses that allow for movement faster than the speed of light. As I understand it, they are based on the general theory of relativity.
