Has anyone here not heard the riddle, "Which of the living creatures walks on four legs in the morning, on two in the afternoon, and on three in the evening?" I don't have any printed materials that tell about the Sphinx (I don't keep them, I'm not interested). But there are plenty of sources on the Internet, and they all say roughly the same thing. Here you go (besides Wikipedia):
http://myfhology.narod.ru/monsters/sfinks.html
http://www.foxdesign.ru/legend/sfinks1.html
http://greekroman.ru/sphinx.htm
http://ru.wikifur.com/wiki/%D0%A1%D1%84%D0%B8%D0%BD%D0%BA%D1%81%D1%8B
I'm too lazy to look any further.
Even if you are right about the Egyptian Sphinx, the Greeks seriously refined this image. And Black Hole might also have a rich imagination; it's possible that they will come up with something else.
