I found the justification very amusing: because dragons were a too powerful creature, they decided to remove them from the regular units and make them bosses. Yes, that will improve the balance much better . Although dragons as level 7 units were quite balanced. It doesn't even need to be said that having bosses in the army (as stated, they can still be recruited) will create a monstrous imbalance.
I didn't understand the idea with spell-abilities. How does that work? Then there won't be enough experience points for all the spells! However, it's hard to understand in words – you need to see it.
And I understand, so there won't be a magic guild now. A warrior hero learns abilities, and for a mage, instead of abilities, there will be spells.
I liked how they explained reputation – life, death, or neutral. Now, it seems that the hero's skill tree (class) will depend on their reputation.
And I didn't like that the fourth race won't be announced; perhaps the developers want to add to the already known races.
I think it's objective that they reduced the power of direct magic. Otherwise, it would be like in Heroes 4 with the Order, Death, Nature, and Chaos factions, where, after upgrading magic, the soldiers become useful only for covering the hero-mage, and in these factions, the warrior hero is much weaker than the mage, and the same was true for Life; the mage hero was more useful than the warrior.
