Mejja was probably killed by a woman. As far as I know, men use cologne, eau de toilette, and other such things. Judging by the weapon, it was a pirate.

The connection between spirits and a woman is too vague; we have many female characters. The clue should be more specific. So, either this isn't a clue, or you're not interpreting the clue correctly.
