Well, I don't know, I usually try to build creatures and then upgrade them. Of course, there are exceptions, like in Heroes of Might and Magic III with Goblins. I upgrade them right away.

I agree, or skeletons in Heroes of Might and Magic V. In general, you should quickly build all the creatures so that the army grows, because in Heroes of Might and Magic V, upgrading units is clearly more expensive than in Heroes of Might and Magic III, and it's worth upgrading a couple of units, otherwise you won't have enough resources to build the missing ones. For example, for Necropolis, you need a lot of mercury to upgrade them, and you have to save it for dragons!
