It’s possible and advisable to divide the disk into two partitions, move important data from one partition to another, quickly format the original partition, and restore everything to its original state. It’s reliable and generally a good idea. Also, I only have one partition, and in my humble opinion, having more than two partitions (one for the OS, the other for everything else) actually creates unnecessary confusion.
