I wrote a little higher about misunderstandings in the game, but maybe he had reasons known only to him to play that way.
I have two options - either human factor or skill. Perhaps he was afraid of losing the support units.

Regarding skill: I recently watched two videos - Pita and Kluk (thanks to him for the vod) about this game.
