How to effectively use quick battles (autobattles)?

The only thing we can say for sure is that quick battles are effective against archers (archers don't shoot during quick battles) and when capturing hives, but even then, it's not entirely clear. :D

I can only say one thing: what I find interesting about quick battles is when I played against the computer and decided to practice... I gather an army and attack... boom, they all lose... then I separate them into individual units in two empty stacks, and they win with the remaining good army:confused: ...and if I separate them even more, the losses are completely different... it's a mystery...
