Although, personally, it seems illogical to me that a specialist in spells against neutral creatures and companions can freely use spells, but if he trains someone, then he needs to fulfill subparagraph a) or b) or c).
These requirements do not need to be met by hero-specialists; that's why we are discussing it, to give mages a chance (although scorp consistently defeats me with towers). But when a mage starts training hero-warriors in various Resurrections, etc., that's already a different story.
