Is metal dead?

I'll write what I wrote to Vir yesterday on AIM.
If we exclude alternative and nu-metal, then there weren't really any well-known bands, but on the other hand, not all the well-known bands from the 70s and 80s became famous in the first 5-6 years. For example, in the early 90s, many great and now well-known bands started.

Okay, for reference, Slipknot in 1999-2000.

In '99, their self-titled album was released, after which they gained worldwide fame, but they were performing even before that.
ps Tokyo Hotel is not metal.
