He assembled a mixed artifact of health (+25 to health), which played an important role in the victory... 2 field battles, 2 of my victories - Romantic himself didn't expect it, and I didn't believe in victory either. This was before I lost my main city and magic. The opponent had expert air and earth magic, and also had slow and speed spells available.
