Maybe he should play the next missions, figure out how many days he has left, and then send a proper save file again?

He didn't exactly "drop out," but he doesn't have results for missions 1-3, so you could say he doesn't have any. However, he can still participate in the tournament; no one is stopping him, but he needs to be more careful in the future.
