In my opinion, even 4 standard races would be enough. Humans, elves, dwarves, undead (or demons). Why make forest elves, night elves, blood elves?! Doesn't it seem stupid to you? The same goes for dividing one human race into 3: paladins, archers, and some kind of griffons. Or dividing the undead into ghosts, skeletons, and zombies.
Of course, doing it that way would be just silly, but four races are still too few. And the fact that there was a division into forest and dark elves is normal; both of these races have long been widely known, so there was no division of one race here. And four races are much more diverse than four.
